Creating connection between a piece of jewellery and its wearer’s imagination forms the premise of fine jewellery brand J.Hannah. We translated this concept into an identity with print, packaging and digital applications that have furthered the brand’s story over our long-term collaboration.
In the early stages of establishing her contemporary fine jewellery brand J. Hannah, Los Angeles-based designer Jess Hannah initiated a collaborative partnership which saw us translate her distinct sensibility into a brand identity encoded with room to grow in focus and offering over time. J.Hannah is built around storytelling, and creating connection between a piece and the wearer’s imagination. To bring this to life, we established a new wordmark with an engraved and hand-finished quality that emphasises the craft behind the collection. A monogram was developed as a secondary logo, drawing inspiration from historic makers’ marks and using the palindrome from the brand name to create its symmetrical design.
To foreground the mix of interdisciplinary references – jewellery’s rich history, time-steeped symbolism and esoteric colour references – that guide J.Hannah’s storytelling, we designed a brand identity for application across digital and print applications as well as packaging. Designed as a keepsake in its own right, a rigid box houses each piece of jewellery. Finished with a white foiled monogram, it includes a letterpress insert alongside a reusable cloth dust bag for travel. As the J.Hannah collection expanded over time to include a careful edit of high-quality nail polishes inspired, we developed a polish bottle based on a nostalgic ‘90s rectangle form, in a weighty glass featuring a textured paper label, ideal for clear colour swatching and imagery.
Conversation and creative exchange has been a core throughline of our long-term collaboration with J.Hannah. Jess’s prescient use of digital platforms as a tool for building connection and resonance saw her quickly build an engaged international community, for which we developed digital and social applications to ensure alignment between the brand’s digital presence and its evolving creative direction. Today, that community includes cultural industry leaders and noted art institutions, with whom J.Hannah regularly collaborates.
